ABOUT US 

Bio - Gerald W. Hines - Chairman - Board of Directors

Mr. Hines is a licensed Architect by profession and retired from the federal government January 2014. He is the Chair of the Board of Directors for the REDEEM Community Development Corporation, a 501 C3 nonprofit organization, at the First Baptist Church of Deanwood.

In 2010, Mr. Hines launched Pride’s Joy Garden on newly acquired vacant properties totally half-acre to grow vegetables to supplement the food distribution at its Community Outreach Center. He is the current coordinator for the garden, in which we produced nearly 1000 pounds of produce this year.

The R.E.D.E.E.M. CDC

In April 2000, The R.E.D.E.E.M. Community Development Corporation of the First Baptist Church of Deanwood was incorporated by the District of Columbia. R.E.D.E.E.M. - Revitalizing, Energizing, Deanwood’s Economic Empowerment Mission.

Our Objectives: To improve operations at the Outreach Center and Pride’s Joy Garden;
Market The REDEEM CDC as an effective service provider; and conduct fund raising campaigns to further its mission.

The Board

OUR HISTORY

The R.E.D.E.E.M. CDC is a Church Ministry established to operate for charitable and educational purposes and to improve the quality of life for the Deanwood and surrounding community.

The R.E.D.E.E.M. developed the Community Outreach Center, at 1008 45th Street, N.E. Washington DC 20019 where free food and clothing have been distributed to Deanwood families since it was opened in August 2002.

In 2015, The R.E.D.E.E.M. received 501 (C) (3) Nonprofit status. With its new focus, The R.E.D.E.E.M CDC is working to apply for grants and conduct fundraising activities to provide solutions to elevate the life of families in the community.

Community Outreach Center - Incorporated

OUTREACH CENTER

2002

Community Outreach Center - 

The R.E.D.E.E.M. developed the Community Outreach Center, at 4408 Sheriff Road NE where free food and clothing have been distributed to Deanwood families. Officially opened in August 2002.

GARDEN

2010

Pride's Joy Garden

In 2010, The R.E.D.E.E.M. launched Pride’s Joy Garden on newly acquired properties, to grow vegetables to supplement the food distribution at the Outreach Center. Annually, the Garden has successfully produced 100s of gallons of cucumbers, tomatoes, string beans, collards, kale, squash, and turnip greens.
